A Trip of A Lifetime

Countdown to Adventure

In less than 2 weeks, my husband of almost 44 years and I will be heading out on a trip of a lifetime. My husband likes to call it a "Tour of America". I prefer to call it " American Adventure" because I appreciate  the alliteration. This trip is one that we have discussed for several years and planned carefully during the past year. For a period of 100 days, starting on April 1 of 2023, we will be living in the motorhome pictured above. It is 34 feet long and has one slide out (for those who know what slide-outs are.) There is a comfortable queen sized bed which is larger than our full size antique one at home. The motor home also boasts a bathroom, shower, kitchen with refrigerator, and a table to eat our meals. A comfy couch is located in the living space. It is a wonderful place to sit and read on a rainy day or in the evening. We have used the motorhome for trips to nearby states, but this trip is different. We are not only going local, we are going national.

Where are we going?

Our trip will begin in Lancaster,Pennsylvania, our home of 40 years. From Lancaster we will drive south through Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee to Florida. From Florida we will begin our journey west through Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. From Arizona we will begin a northern route into Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Minnesota. The journey will continue into South Dakota, Illinois, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, New York, and east to Rhode Island. Finally, after 100 days of adventure we will return home. Along the way we hope to visit our 5 children who live across the country. We also have many dear friends and family to see.

in addition to the personal connections we will make, my husband and I are excited to see and experience the beauty of America. We have plans to visit a variety of State Parks and National Parks. There will be museums, historic homes, local cuisine, star gazing in the desert, walking along scenic trails or just standing in one place to view the majesty of Creation. So much to do, so many memories to make. We are greatly blessed.

Will you join us?

Some of you who know us have asked if we will give an account of our trip as we go. We will try to do that for those of you who are interested. I, Ruth, will be writing as I am able and as the WIFI availability allows. I am going to aim for once a week but it really does depend on where we are! I will also be posting pictures daily on Instagram @silverhairedadventures. I do not have a Facebook account, so Instagram will have to do if you want the Cliff Notes version. While I continue to learn how to navigate through the digital world I will do my best to share our adventure with you and hopefully improve as our trip unfolds.

In the meantime, we would appreciate your prayers for our safety as we travel almost 10,000 miles together. We desire to represent our Savior in all our interactions and cannot begin to express our gratitude to God for His overwhelming kindness to us in allowing us such an opportunity. It is indeed a trip of a lifetime. We would love for you to join us!
